đŸŽ¯ What is Poeltl?

Poeltl is the official NBPA player guessing game, run by the National Basketball Players Association at poeltl.nbpa.com. Every day the puzzle picks a current or former NBA player — active and retired stars, role players, journeymen, and Hall of Famers — and gives you eight guesses to name them from a silhouette and a few attribute clues.

The game's signature mechanic is its color-coded attribute grid: every guess fills in six columns — team, conference, division, position, height, age, and jersey number — with green-yellow-red feedback and arrows on the ordered columns. Poeltl is the gold-standard NBA dle and the one most other basketball guessing games are measured against.

💡 How to Play Poeltl

  1. Open poeltl.nbpa.com to see today's silhouette and the countdown to the next daily reset. The silhouette is the most important clue — hairstyle, headband, height, and posture usually narrow the pool fast.
  2. Read the on-screen starting clues. Poeltl usually opens with one or two low-information attributes (a conference, a position) to get you started.
  3. Type an NBA player's name into the search box. The pool covers active and retired players with at least one NBA game.
  4. Submit your guess to fill in the row. Green = exact match, Yellow = partial overlap (for example, two players who played on the same team in different years), Red = no match. Ordered columns like height, age, and jersey number add ↑ / ↓ arrows.
  5. Pay attention to the arrows. A down arrow on age combined with an up arrow on jersey number often identifies the answer in two or three guesses.
  6. Solve the player within eight guesses and a shareable emoji grid appears. Streaks, stats, and guess distributions save to your browser.
