đ¯ What is Metazooa?
Metazooa is the daily animal-taxonomy game from Trainwreck Labs (the studio behind Metaflora and other Meta-games). Each day the puzzle picks a real animal from the tree of life and asks you to identify it in 20 guesses. Wrong guesses reveal how close your guess is taxonomically â the more ranks you share with the answer, the more you learn.
The format is closer to a phylogenetic tree-builder than to Wordle. The game tracks every guess you've made on a single diagram, and shared ranks â kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus â fill in as you guess correctly enough animals.
đĄ How to Play Metazooa
- Open metazooa.com to see today's empty taxonomic tree and the daily countdown.
- Type any animal name into the guess box. Suggestions cover a wide range of species â mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, insects, and more.
- Submit your guess. The animal appears on the taxonomic tree at its true rank, and any shared ranks with the mystery animal light up â kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus.
- Use the highlighted ranks to triangulate. A guess that shares phylum and class with the answer narrows the candidate list dramatically; a guess that only shares kingdom gives a much weaker signal.
- Branch out taxonomically. If your first guess is a mammal and the answer shares only kingdom, try a bird or a reptile next.
- Solve the mystery animal in 20 guesses or fewer. The site tracks your daily score and your average over time.
