đ¯ What is Metaflora?
Metaflora is the daily plant-taxonomy game from Trainwreck Labs, the sister game to Metazooa. Each day the puzzle picks a real plant â anything from a backyard weed to a tropical hardwood â and asks you to identify it in 25 guesses. Wrong guesses reveal how close your guess is taxonomically across kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, and genus.
The format mirrors Metazooa but with a much larger pool and a different kingdom â Viridiplantae covers everything from mosses and ferns to flowering plants and conifers. The taxonomic tree visualization shows every guess you've made and how it relates to the answer.
đĄ How to Play Metaflora
- Open flora.metazooa.com to see today's empty taxonomic tree and the daily countdown.
- Type any plant name into the guess box. Suggestions cover a wide range of plants â wildflowers, trees, crops, ferns, mosses, and more.
- Submit your guess. The plant appears on the taxonomic tree at its true rank, and any shared ranks with the mystery plant light up â kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus.
- Use the highlighted ranks to triangulate. Sharing class and order with the answer narrows the pool dramatically; sharing only kingdom gives a much weaker signal.
- Branch out taxonomically. If your first guess is a flowering plant and the answer shares only kingdom, try a conifer or a fern next.
- Solve the mystery plant in 25 guesses or fewer. The site tracks your daily score and your average over time.
