Chessguessr
đ¯ What is Chessguessr?
Chessguessr is the daily chess-position guessing game from chessguessr.com. Each day the puzzle drops a real position from a chess game and asks you to name the next five moves played in the game.
The format is a chess-themed Wordle: five slots, each representing a move, and color-coded tiles that show whether each guess was correct, in the right move line but wrong spot, the same piece type but wrong move, or completely wrong. The same position goes out to every player worldwide at midnight UTC.
đĄ How to Play Chessguessr
- Open chessguessr.com to see today's chess position and the daily countdown.
- Study the position. The side to move, the material balance, the threats, and any tactical motifs (pins, forks, discovered attacks) all matter.
- Type the next move in standard algebraic notation (e.g. "Nf3", "exd5", "Qxh7+") into the first slot.
- Submit your guess. Green tiles mean the move is correct; yellow tiles mean it's in the played line but in the wrong slot; orange tiles mean the same piece type was played but the move is wrong; gray tiles mean the move wasn't played at all.
- Use the colored feedback to build your next guess. Lock in green tiles, swap yellow tiles to other slots, and prune moves that don't fit.
- Solve all five moves in nine tries or fewer. A shareable emoji grid appears with your daily result, and the site tracks your streak and guess distribution.
