đŸŽ¯ What is Redactle?

Redactle is the daily Wikipedia guessing game from redactle.net. Each day the puzzle picks a real Wikipedia article and redacts almost every word, leaving only a handful of common words visible. Your job is to identify the article from those few surviving words and the structure of the sentences around them.

It's the original "uncover the article" puzzle, and the goal is unusually flexible: you don't need to find the article title — you can win by typing any sufficiently relevant word that the puzzle accepts. Each correct guess reveals every instance of that word in the article, which in turn often unlocks the article's title within a few well-chosen guesses.

💡 How to Play Redactle

  1. Open redactle.net to see today's redacted article and the daily countdown. The article's structure is preserved — sentences, headings, sections, lists — only the words are hidden behind black bars.
  2. Type a word into the guess box and submit. If the word appears in the article, every instance of it gets revealed; if not, you simply get no new information.
  3. Start with high-frequency words like "the", "and", "is", or "of" — these usually appear in every Wikipedia article and unlock sentence skeletons you can read.
  4. Add context words. "Wikipedia" appears in the sidebar; "born", "died", "city", "country", "war", "team", "album", "song" each point at very different article types.
  5. Look for surviving common words in the article. Redactle keeps a few short function words visible — they're the most reliable clues to the article's subject.
  6. Click a redacted word to see its letter count. Six-letter words, four-letter words, very long words — the lengths narrow the candidate pool fast.
  7. Reveal the article title to win. You don't need to fill in every word — identifying the subject is enough. Average solve time is around 7 minutes and 35 seconds, and the global give-up rate is roughly 26%.
