đŸŽ¯ What is WhereTaken?

WhereTaken is the daily GeoGuessr-style photo game from Teuteuf Games. Each day the puzzle drops a single photograph of an outdoor scene — a street, a landscape, a building, a transit stop — and you have to guess where in the world it was taken. The closer your guess is, the higher you score.

The pool spans the entire globe, so the puzzle rewards broad geographic literacy: language on signage, vegetation, architecture, road markings, and license plate colors are the usual tells. Each photo has a five-kilometer tolerance — guessing the right country usually scores in the 4,000-point range, while the right continent scores in the low thousands.

💡 How to Play WhereTaken

  1. Open wheretaken.teuteuf.fr to see today's photograph and the daily countdown.
  2. Study the photo. Look for language on signage (Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, CJK), vegetation (palm vs. conifer vs. dry grass), architecture (Mediterranean vs. Scandinavian vs. tropical), and infrastructure (left-hand vs. right-hand driving).
  3. Click anywhere on the world map to drop a pin. WhereTaken uses an interactive globe, so you can rotate and zoom before placing your guess.
  4. Submit your pin. The game reveals the true location and awards points based on distance — within 5 km is a perfect score of 5,000.
  5. Use the Rules button if you want a refresher on scoring and game modes.
  6. Share your score with the community. Streaks save to your browser and the photo rotates at UTC midnight.
