đŸŽ¯ What is Tradle?

Tradle is the daily trade-data guessing game from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC). Each day the puzzle shows you a country's actual export profile — usually a bar chart of its top trading partners and the goods it sends abroad — and asks you to name the country from its trade data alone.

It's a deliberately nerdy format: you're not looking at flags or silhouettes, you're looking at who a country trades with and what it sells. Big exporters of cars, oil, electronics, and agricultural commodities each have distinctive signatures.

💡 How to Play Tradle

  1. Open games.oec.world/en/tradle to see today's export chart — the top trading partners and goods of a mystery country.
  2. Read the chart. Look at the largest export partners (often the US, China, Germany, or a regional neighbor) and the biggest export categories (oil, cars, electronics, raw materials).
  3. Click on individual bars to see the exact value. The biggest single export usually identifies the country — a country whose top export is copper is probably Chile; a country whose top export is palm oil is probably Indonesia or Malaysia.
  4. Type the country name into the guess box and submit. You have unlimited guesses — the goal is to solve it.
  5. Use the on-screen hints if you're stuck. Tradle gradually reveals the country flag, the continent, and a couple of export categories.
  6. Share your solve count when you're done. The puzzle resets at UTC midnight with a new country.
