đŸŽ¯ What is AniGuessr?

AniGuessr is a daily anime-themed geography and visual guessing game that pulls screenshots and scenery frames from across the genre. Each day the puzzle drops a series of stills — backgrounds, establishing shots, cityscapes, and key scene locations — and asks you to identify where in the anime world they come from.

The format is closer to GeoGuessr than Wordle: you're not matching letters, you're matching a frame to an anime title, a city, a real-world location, or a series-specific setting. Hardcore anime fans get an edge because they recognize the architecture of Soul Society, the skyline of Tokyo-3, or the bridges of Musutafu.

💡 How to Play AniGuessr

  1. Open aniguessr.com and start today's challenge. You'll see a sequence of frames drawn from anime backgrounds — city shots, landscapes, interiors, and signature locations.
  2. Look for visual tells. Architecture, signage (Japanese, English, or stylized), lighting, and sky color are the most reliable waypoints; some frames lean on in-universe details like uniforms or signature landmarks.
  3. Submit your guess for the anime, the city, or the specific location the frame is from. The exact prompt varies by mode — some rounds ask for the series, some for the real-world location it was based on.
  4. Use the difficulty hints the site provides. Newer or more popular series get easier frames; older or more obscure scenes are reserved for harder rounds.
  5. Compare against the daily leaderboard. AniGuessr scores each guess by distance from the correct answer (in the geography modes) or by time-to-solve.
  6. Practice in the unranked mode between dailies. There is no streak penalty and the rounds rotate from a much larger image pool.
  7. Share your run or compare results with friends. The leaderboard resets at UTC midnight alongside the daily puzzle.
